Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Florida

Rental deposits

Is there any guidelines or restrictions on Low Income rental housing? I am moving into an apartment based on my income. I have three children and make 25000 yearly my deposit for one was 1800.00 based on my credit and my prorated rent is 415 and my rent was 765 which they raised to 777 and now they want a 200.00 application fee. Is there guidelines or something stating how much they can charge people? This is suppose to be low income housing.

Re: Rental deposits

I suggest you call the state or county bar association and ask for legal assistance for low income clients. It will unfortunately probably turn out that this is legal, but maybe you'll get lucky and they can do something to help you. Just google search your county or Florida and "low income legal assistance."

Check with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in your area. This federal agency oversees most of the low income housing in the State of Florida. If there is a local agency, they can inform you of the same and give you the telephone number to call for more information.
