nonresident greencard holder reporting tax liability

green card holderliving abroad to earn but has not submitted tax forms for past 14 years.Annual Income less than 7Ok.Married. Am told Ishould have sumitted even thoughincome amount exempt. If I do is there a criminal penalty.

No criminal or civil penalties if no taxes were in fact owed, but you should consult with a criminal tax attorney to be sure of your situation. Also, as a chronic non-filer, you can have problems re-entering the country.

Generally, it is always best to file, regardless of liability. Mere filing will reduce the probability of criminal penalties. You are advised to accumulate your records for the past 10 years, consult with a CPA or tax attorney to file returns as a group; consult with the tax attorney re any criminal sanctions after review of information specific to your situation.
