Legal Question in Traffic Law in Florida

My 15 yo son unknowingly hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was intoxicated, walking with traffic coming up behing him, and walking in a turning lane. The passenger mirror of my sons truck struck him but no serious injuries (bruise from the mirror and minor road rash on right hand). My son did not see him and didn't know what happened...he thought someone threw something at his truck. He pulled into a nearby parking lot and was looking over his truck. After a few minutes an ambulance came and that's when he realized he might have hit someone. He came home and told me, we reported it immediately. We met the officer at the hospital. He was issued 3 citations; careless driving, leaving the scene, and failure to report crash damages less $200. There is a witness who states my son stayed within the white lines of his lane. We plead Not Guilty initially and now have a new court date. Any advice?

Leaving the scene of an accident involving injury can be a felony. This is very serious. No attorney can give "advice" on a forum such as this. You need to talk to an attorney immediately. Only then can you get proper advice by discussing the details of the case.
