Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

Brother -in- law died without a will. He leaves behind no family other than his sister and he only has personal items and a vehicle. There are probably medical bills and credit card debt. How do we proceed or do we just leave it for the authorities to settle?

if the assets don't exceed the debt than filling a probate wont really help. The personal items can be transferred without probate. The vehicle is a problem if it was in his name alone, than it requires a probate estate to change ownership. seek some legal advice with all paperwork. sorry for the loss
