Florida marriage of two 70 & 80 yr. olds, what are the advantages of marriage, regarding estates in event of death?

A surviving spouse has elective rights regarding his/her share of the estate. However, it is doubtful that persons would marry because of any perceived estate advantages. There are also disadvantages.
