Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Florida

My mother died in 1997 and left a mobile home with a piece of property. However my stepfather has life use of the property. Recently we were informed that this man has not paid any taxes on the property since 2005 and it is now being auctioned off. I do not want to loose my mothers property however I do not want to pay the taxes if he is still going to have life use of the propery. He has not taken care of the property it is all overgrown and you cant even get up the driveway. What options would I have?

You can file suit against him for wasting the remainder interest in the property. The problem is that the cost of the suit may exceed the value of the mobile home with property.

You may also have to pay the taxes before auction to preserve the property for the lawsuit.

Buy the tax deed and then foreclose his interest.
