Is it normal that if a person left a gift of 200,000 with a trustee, for me, is it normal to have to pay a fee of 500 dollars to recieve this gift

It does happen that bequests pass through trusts, so that can be normal.

What I don't understand is the fee of $500 to get it. Trustees are entitled to be paid, and usually they are paid before distribution. However, it normally doesn't come from a specific bequest but from the residual. I would especially be concerned if the Trustee is asking you to pay him $500 to get your $200,000. Reason, why wouldn't he just give you $199500 instead?

As a beneficiary, you are entitled to get a cooy of the Trust and an accounting. However, if you get exactly what the Trust says, an accounting is irrelavant to you. But in this rare care it might.

You may need to consult with a Probate/Trust Attorney if this continues to send up red flags.
