settlement for long term injury
my husband was hurt on the job. he has been diagnosed with carpal tunnel and ulnar neuritis. he has been estimated to be out of work for at least 23 months without surgery and longer with.he is a commercial driver and has been told by his doctor that no matter the treament he may never drive professionally again.we were told by a lawyer that he can settle for about 400 but that he'd be lucky to get it and he should just forget about it.we would like a second opinion.

To be honest, there is not nearly enough information to determine the value of this case, or even whether settlement should be an option. I am not sure what the prior attorney told you, and I am not sure what the "value" of 400 means. In general, workers' compensation is responsible for payment of medical treatment and a limited period of temporary benefits for lost time from work. I don't know your husband's age, but in general, if he is under 50 years old, and he cannot return to his prior work, but does have skills transferable into another area, he will not be permanently and totally disabled. If he is not permanently and totally disabled, there are limits as to the value of his future benefits.
You should personally sit down with an qualified workers' compensation attorney and discuss this in greater detail. Most attorneys will give a free consult, although most attorneys who understand the law won't give you a value without seeing all of the medical documentation.
