Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Georgia

Is it illegal for me to tell others that I know a person that they know has filed for bankruptcy? I am being threatened by the persons bankruptcy lawyer that I am "messing with business relationships"

I suspect you're leaving a great deal out. It's not illegal to mention bankruptcy where there is one, but the statement in the wrong context could get you sued. Since you deliberately omitted that detail, there's no way to answer you.

Is it illegal for me to tell others? It's not illegal, but if you have an ulterior motive and bad intetions in doing so, a smart lawyer might be able to make out some kind of case that could survive a motion for summary judgment.

Bankruptcy information can be readily obtained if someone really wanted to find out, so the information is not secret. Using this info. to harass someone or to disrupt their business (sounds like what their attorney was referring to) could get you in hot water.
