Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Georgia

I have been making payments on a car for the last 6 months in Georgia, I have no credit and live with my boyfriend who is the father of our child. He got the loan in his name and did not put me on it so that I could receive a credit rating. Now we are separating and he wants the car. What legal recourse do I have to keep the car? I do not have a contract with him, I have just been pulling money out of my account monthly so he can make the payments. I will have custody of our child since she was born out of wedlock and I need transportation.
