Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Georgia

My spouse and I were driving from NY across the country, as we were at a stop sign in GEORGIA, I got out of the car to pick up an item i saw. My spouse then drove around and parked on the side of the road. "A witness called and claimed that my spouse tried to run me over." As I walked back to the car where she was parked, a police officer came to the scene within 10 seconds. He asked me what was going on and I said I was getting an item I saw on the road and that everything was fine-- as well as my spouse. The officer then asked for our licenses, (she does not have one) so she was arrested for not having a license even though she wasn't driving at the time and parked on the side of the road. Then i was given a "citation for letting someone without a license drive". Then 4 other cop cars came to the scene minutes later, as well as a drug sniffing dog. The officer told me a dog was coming to sniff my car "so if I have any drugs it'd be best to tell him now." I said "No." Another officer walked the drug dog which then alerted and they found 1/4 of a gram of marijuana and a smoking piece. I was then put in handcuffs and I didn't even know I was getting arrested. Because the car is under my name as well... I feel like this has been a prolonged traffic stop when there was nothing to "investigate" further, from the officer originally asking about the "witnesses claim". We were both not aware of our rights at the time and confused about the situation entirely. We paid a bails bondsman and were released from jail about a hour after getting arrested. I think that we were just set up to get quick money from and that the charges were unlawful to begin with. As well as the towns population being about 1000 people... We have a court hearing soon and I just want some advice on how we should both plead.
