Having an issue with meta tags

I have a compeditor that sent me an email that clames that I copyed here meta tags - these tags are keywords and phrases not - ''Trademarks'' She is has sent me an email telling me she wants to sue - I reviewd our pages and some of the keywords used in my meta are allike -

Is this a prob?

I can't seem to find anything that would make it a problem other than if I was to use trade marked keyword or phrase.

Thanx - could use some help..

Re: Having an issue with meta tags

If you intentionally copied these metatags from the competitor, you may have a potential copyright infringement problem. Also, if you use words that have common law trademarks belonging to the competitor, there may be a claim for trademark infringement. Finally, if you are using deceptive practices (perhaps an example would be using words that are strongly associated with the competitor but now with your company to draw business away from the competitor), there is a possibility of a claim. You should probably meet with an attorney with knowledge of intellectual property and unfair competition to determine whether or not there is real risk.

The foregoing is general information only, not specific legal advice. No attorney/client relationship has been created or should be implied.
