Legal Question in Technology Law in Georgia

META Tags in an HTML Document

A company created a web site for us and is now threatening a lawsuit if we do not remove the meta tags from the home page because they claim that this is copyighted information. Is that possible?

Re: META Tags in an HTML Document

The meta data may be copyrightable if it is of unique authorship. The rest of the terms of the agreement should be in the contracts with the company. But if you are simply asking if it is possible that they can file a law suit, then, yes. They would certainly have the right to file suit. However, they may simply be bluffing to get you to remove the tags.
