Legal Question in Construction Law in Georgia

breaking a contract....

My husband and I are working on opening an emergency/homeless shelter. We have signed a contract with a general contractor and since then have learned that he has beefed up the price by thousands of dollars(by that I mean $60,400. over the estimate for only one of the jobs). No work has been started yet. Can we break this contract without being held liable for the money he has asked for?
