Legal Question in Construction Law in Georgia

Damages during roof replacement

I hired a company to replace the shingles on my roof. During the installation, they quit working because it started raining. Instead of covering the exposed roof, they just left. The interior of my house suffered water damage to the paint in four rooms and unknown damage between the walls. In addition, the contractor removed a brand new roof from a one month old room addition that was not to be touched. There is much collateral damage from shingles hitting the side of the house and dented gutters. The contractor is balking at my estimate of damage to the house and has simply quoted a number based on his loss of profit. What is the extent of the contractor's liability for damage to the new room resulting from his unauthorized work? His work invalidated my builder's warranty for the new room.

Re: Damages during roof replacement

The extent and type of the damages you can recover can be tricky and will depend on the facts of the situation and/or the terms of any signed contract. First, look to the terms of the agreement, then you can better assess damages.
