Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Collection of debt

I paid a compay with a money order and sent the payment by mail. They are now claming that they haven't received the payment. If I have my money order receipt show that I sent the payment I'm I still responsible and do I have to pay the late fees?

Re: Collection of debt

It is irrelevant if you send a payment. Until it's received you have not paid it. Unless they choose to be nice and waive a late fee, you owe that too (but if you're usually a good payor, call customer service and they might be nice).

NEVER use money orders. They take forever to trace. Either get a checking account and use checks, pay by credit card, or pay people online.

Re: Collection of debt

I suggest that you track down who cashed the money order. Like a check you should be able to follow the money order's trail. It could be that the company you paid with the money order misapplied your payment and if they see that you paid them and they misapplied it they will correct their mistake.
