Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Collector calling the wrong person!

Someone named Nicole has been giving out my phone number as hers to a variety of creditors and merchants--and when she doesn't pay her bills, I hear about it. We have told one particular ''law office'' based in Utah that there is no Nicole here, but they keep calling. I don't want to be associated in any way with this Nicole person, and although I have not given these collectors any personal information, my number is listed and I'm afraid they could come after us. Should I ignore it? Send them a cease and desist letter? Their calls are really annoying.

Re: Collector calling the wrong person!

Send them a certified letter directing them not to call you.

Also intitiate an FTC complaint against the caller at http://www.ftc.gov

Finally, call the security department at your local phone company if they continue to call and ask them to pursue a harassing phone call complaint.

Also: this sounds like there may be identity theft. Check your credit reports and place a fraud alert on them. Details are on the FTC website.
