Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

If my husband opened a credit account and added me as an authorized user, not a joint account holder, can the company hold me responsible for the debt? He filed bankruptcy and the company added my name, then took his off completely without our consent, now are coming after me, through collections. Am I liable?

You should examine the agreement for authorized users. Frequently, credit card companies will provide the new authorized user with a document essentially stating that the new cardholder agrees to be bound by all the terms of the original cardholder.

However, the fact that they removed your husband's name off the account and added your name is suspect.

I would examine all documents pertaining to the credit card, and if the debt is substantially high, I would hire an attorney to look into the matter.
