Legal Question in Criminal Law in Georgia

I was at my sisters house helping her with different things and taking to run erruns because she does not have transportation. she and I purchased a lottery scratch off and hit for 250.00 we split the money so I took her around to get items out of pawn. all thru out that day we purchased more tickets separate. I was on a pretty good winning streak. I was getting ready to leave and go home, when she became very irrated she then said to me you are not leaving here with any tickets. I got up out of my chair and was heading for the door that's when she assaulted me and eventully pulled a knife she natched my purse I ran to the door and got out. I called the police the police went in the house retrieved my wallet and other things but said they could not take any money, because she said it was hers. She did finally agree to give the officers some scratch off tickets and told them that was all of mine all of them were losers except one 3 dollar one the officers said they could not arrest her or charge her with anything because the only other person there said they did not see anything but it sounded as if I instigated the altercasation. Is that the way it really works? And If not what can I do?
