Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

I don't know how to do this...

I am currently married. We were last living in Fulton County (georgia), then moved to an extended stay hotel in Cobb County. We separated while at the extended stay (we've been separated 7 months now), then I shortly moved to Bartow County, and her back to Alabama with her family. I'm not sure if I can use a local attorney (cartersville) or if I have to travel to Fulton County (the last place we lived together). I also don't know how much to expect in terms of cost. She will fight more than likely, but there is no child/home/car/assets to be distributed. I need protection from paying alimony, but I don't have thousands and thousands of dollars to do it with. My budget is about $2,000. Is that unreasonable?? Help me please!
