If she was ordered to pay the loan and she has not, your husband may be able to file a motion for contempt in the court where the divorce was entered. He would ask the court to order her to reimburse him for the payment he made on the car loan, order her to make all future payments on time and order her to pay his attorney's fees (if he hires an attorney).

If he is on the loan, there is no way to get out of owing the creditor. His divorce lawyer certainly explained that to him at the time. He may want to see that lawyer to see if there is anything he can/should do versus her.
