Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

my husband and I put all of our household items in a public storage unit when we were moving, unfortunatley we separated shortly thereafter with a verbal agreement that my husband would maintain the monthly unit charges....recently my husband told the public storage that they were not to give me any information about the units or the accounts? The manager at the storage indicates that even though I am his wife, because I did not "also" sign the rental contract that I have no rights to my personal, legal or marital items that are in storage? Is there any recourse for me to gain access to our storage unit?

File for divorce and in the petition request immediate return of the items or their value.

In the alternative, you can file for an order of separate maintenance. In the petition, you request the resolution of alimony and property division, which would include access to your items in the storage unit.

You should retain a local experienced family attorney to determine which option is best for you.

Unless you file a divorce (or separate maintenance) action and specifically seek the assets, the answer is no.

See an experienced family law lawyer near you. My office deals with such cases if you are in or near metro Atlanta.
