Can a judge finalize a divorce without notifying the defendant or getting a signature from the defendant or defendant's lawyer?

It depends on a lot of facts that you neglected to post. If you were in the middle of a divorce proceeding, you surely hired a lawyer right? Go talk to your lawyer.

Since you're in a divorce, certainly you have counsel. Your counsel will know the detailed facts and pleadings that will answer if this was proper in your case (it may be depending on things you did not tell us). Although your lawyer will know, no one here knows since we haven't seen the pleadings.
