Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Leaving the state with child

I have a 9 month old child and the mother left the state to live with another man. She has been diagnosed with bi-polar/split personality disorder and I am afraid for my daughter. I had ongoing problems with the way she took care of the child while i was at work and have reason to be concerned. I need to know what i can do to get my daughter back in this state with me? i dont have the money yet to hire an attorney but fear the results of waiting. are there any resourses available for a concerned father of a child born out of wedlock?

Re: Leaving the state with child

Sir. Quite frankly you have no solution without hiring an attorney. Under Georgia law, sole custody of an illegitimate child rests with the mother unless the father both legitimates the child in court and then brings an action to obtain custody from the mother. You may well have to bring the custody action here in the other state. I have had quite a bit of personal dealings with bipolar disorder victims...bad stuff. Feel free to contact me if you would like further consultation, but I think you are going to have to come to grips with the fact that your daughter is too important to place a low financial priority on her welfare.
