Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Legal separation

My husband and I are planning to file for a divorce. Before we do so he wants to go and have papers drawn up for a legal separation. My question is, is there such a thing as ''legal separation'' and if so what does it mean?

Re: Legal separation

Yes, some people call it separate maintenance. This is done when a separation is needed but divorce is not imminent. Basically, it just details each persons responsiblities for debts, who gets what, how much financial support either party will provide...very similar to divorce settlement, but this agreement is in contemplation that the parties may get back together.
