Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

In Oct. 2009 my son's daughter was born. When he went to sign the birth certificate he wasn't allowed because his girlfriend was still married to her ex-husband (not my son) when she got pregnant by my son. He is now seeking to legitamize his daughter. Can we file the paperwork ourselves or do we have to go through an attorney?

I am not sure who you meran by "we," but the person who takes action is your son. Unless your son has a legal background and knows the law and all procedural rules (in which case you would likewly not be asking here), he will get a lawyer.

The son is the one who has to file. While he CAN file pro se, the odds are that he will not get something correct and it may cost more to fix that than to do it correctly.

My office handles such matters and if incomtested they are inexpensive. If he or she lives in or near metro Atlanta, call me at 404-768-3509.
