Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Hi, I reside in the state of Ga.If my child is now Emancipated but stopped going to school 2yrs prior of turning 18yrs old ,does that affect the amount i owe for child support? My support order was based on previous employment with a company that i no longer work for and i am also looking to get that support order modified. The child support agency is telling me since the child in now Emancipated it is a civil matter. Also the custodial parent was receiving TANF which i am now ordered to repay. I just wanted to know my options or am i stuck with paying complete amount due even though my child stopped going to school 2yrs prior to turning 18yrs old? Thanks for your time.

Stopping going to school does NOT emancipate a child.

And since there is no retroactive modification, you owe every dollar you were ordered to pay. If you had wanted to attempt to change support, your option was to go to Court two years ago.

Unless your court order provides for support past age 18, you are wasting your money filing for modification now, and in fact can be made to pay the mother's attorneys fees for frivolous litigation if you file. If there is support past age 18 in the order, see a lawyer ASAP.
