Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Stepson and his wife and child live in our home. They had an argument with 16 months old in the room. Voices loud enough that I can hear pieces of the conversation. Concerned about child's safety entered the room to remove the child from the situation. The situation became worse, bad language used from child's mother, threatened to call 911 on me in my own home. Father of the child got the child out of my arms after he slapped my wrist. No police were called. What action can I take? What can I do to protect myself from this happening again in my home?

I assume that the person who hit you is the stepson who lives in your house. I also assume that you have asked him to move out but he has refused.

So, just file a Petition for Relief from Domestic Violence in the Superior Court of your county. There is no filing fee required. You can do this without a lawyer and the Clerk is required to assist you with the paperwork.

In the future, call 911. What he did is domestic battery and may also be considered to be misdemeanor cruelty to children since the child was present.
