Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Okay I have a two year old. Me and his father are not together anymore but the baby has his last name. He has nothing to do with him and doesnt help out with expenses. There was an incident on record where he brought a knife to my house with intent to take the child. We have never been married and he has not legitamized the child. I gave the child his last name when he was born. Can i get his name legally changed? If so how? Do I have to wait 5 years or because the situation can i go ahead and do it? i think he is a danger to the child and i dont want him to have access to him without my knowledge like at daycare or when he starts school because they share the same last name. I think i chose the right topic!

A name change has no effect on him seeking custody or visitation. I'd need more information as to when you could do it.
