If you are U.S. citizen and wife came with visa and overstayed, she may be able to adjust her status in the U.S.. If she did not come through a port of entry she might be able to adjust if somebody filed a petition for her (or for her parent if wife was under 21, single and unmarried at the time) on or before April 30 , 2001 (and if wife was physically present in the U.S. on December 21st 2000. Did your wife enter to the United States with certain visa and overstay? If so, she does not need to go back to her home country to be interviewed. However, if your wife entered without inspection, then she will have to go back to her home country for the interview.
