4 of us signed a rental lease for an apartment. the lease doesn't specify what happens upon the death of one of the lessees if the person that signed first on the lease dies, does the lease terminate upon his death?

Re: death of lesee

You need to show your lease agreement to an attorney. However, most leases provide that if you all signed the lease then you are all jointly and severally responsible for paying. The fact that one of the lessees died probably makes no difference to the landlord who will likely look to collect from anyone of you or all of you. The landlord usually has as many people sign as possible to make sure that the landlord gets paid. But in order to determine your rights, under your specific lease, once again, I recommend that you consult a local attorney. Good luck!
