Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

I was living in an apartment development and saw someone burglarize my neighbors apartment. I reported the incident and asked to remain anonymous. My information was published in a police report. I explained to my property manager the situation and she informed me that other burglaries had taken place in the past weeks/months which I was not informed about. The property manager informed me that my information was in the police report. I wrote a letter explaining I was vacating premises in 30 days because I did not feel safe with the burglars knowing my information. The property company has sent my information to collections and it has gone on my credit report. I feel I vacated the premises for reasonable cause. Is there any information you can provide me. Thank you,

First, and most obvious, you made a huge mistake if you moved without reaching an agreement, in writing, with the management. In addition, the apartment management did not fill out the police report - the police did. After you provided information. It is unlikely your lease allowed you to terminate for that reason, or it was otherwise a violation of your lease. Management is also not generally going to be responsible for the criminal activities of other people. The bottom line is that while you may have not felt safe, it was not because of the lessor. Further, handling it the way you did almost guaranteed the situation you face now.
