Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Georgia

I signed a 12 month lease with my landlord on 5/8/2010, I recently got a copy of my original contract out of curiosity and discovered that the dates I had written on the contract (5/8/2010) have been modified by someone in the office to be 5/18/2010, thus extending my lease by 10 days and costing me an additional $400. Is this contract now void? I would leave tomorrow if I could. THanks!

Your post does not say what the lease said when executed by the parties, so you can't get a definite response. Either way,if they changed an executed contract, what proof do you have? If you get sued for breaching the lease and get a big ding on your credit report (that'll cost you many times the $400 over time), what are you going to hold up to a judge? They will be holding up the lease. How much time and money will you spend fighting them? This is probably a $400 lesson in getting a copy of any contract at the time it is executed.
