Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I found an iPhone in a taxi over a month ago. I have made efforts in finding the owner by contact AT&T and Apple. With no progress. Could I sell the phone or is it illegal?

Have you looked in the information stored in the phone (contacts, set up information, etc.). It is mice of you to want to find the owner and that is one way to find it. If you found it in a taxi it was probably just lost within a day or two and was still active at the time. Is it an AT&T phone? You can also go by the Apple store if there is one near you.

Under Georgia law you cannot keep it. Since you didn't find the owner, the Georgia theft of mislaid property law requires you to give it to the police. If you keep it you have committed a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail and $1000 fine.
