right to land

my mother gave me a piece of land and told me we would never have to move . Now she is trying to make us move we have been here 5 years on this land can she make us move?we have a home now on the land.we gave up our home for this land and i have several witness to the deal she made with me.we had a verbal agreement and now she is trying to break it after 5 years please help me .

Re: right to land

Contracts regarding real estate must be in writing to be enforceable. Therefore, if your mother signed a deed to you, that's it; the property is yours and she can't do anything. However, if when you say she "gave" it to you verbally, that is not generally enforceable. On the other hand, since you took certain actions in reliance on the "gift" the courts may give you some relief. Consult with a local attorney.

If mother deeded the land to you, you can stay as long as you own the property.
