Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

I am the landlord of a property. Upon a routine maintenance visit, I notice the mailbox was busted, post snapped in half. My tenants informed me that their neighbor admitted to hitting their mailbox with a car. They said it had been at least 4 days already since it actually happened. My tenants did not call the police when it happened apparently because the neighbor apologized and agreed to pay to repair it.

Long store short, I had the mailbox repaired the next day, and tried to get the neighbor or her mother to reimbursement for the damages. It's been over a month since the incident, and they have not communicated with me nor paid, and doesn't look like they will.

My question is, my I continue pursuit of the neighbors legally to get reimbursed or am I allowed to retain a portion of my tenant's security deposit at the end of their lease term to cover the cost for the repair?

We don't have your lease. Does it say you can charge the tenants for property damaged by others, with no fault of the tenants?
