Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Georgia

quit claims in Georgia

My partner and I have been together for about 20 years. He has epilepsy and recently was hurt during a seizure. He has many hospital bills, as well as student loan payments. He has no source of income now. The house we live in is paid for and the deed is in both our names, however we use my social-security number for IRS purposes. I'm wondering if the house may be in jeopardy if his bills cannot be met. Would it be a good idea to do a quit claim and remove his name from the deed. Thanks for any help you may offer.

Re: quit claims in Georgia

That is always an option; however, you may be committing fraud if you hide assets from creditors. So I would be careful about trying to hide the house.
