Legal Question in Social Security Law in Georgia

A couple of years ago I was injured and my husband hired a disability lawyer to handle my social security claim. This claim has recently been approved by Social Security and I have begun receiving payments. I was also advised that the attorney handling my case has been paid for her services by Social Security from my award. I understand that the attorney must be paid, and I don't have a problem with this coming out of my social security payment. My question is, now that the case has been settled, do I have a right to request a copy of my file from the attorney for my records and fyi review? There were a couple of issues that came up during the claim processing that I never was able to get an answer to from this attorney. Thank you, Wendy Myers 770-312-3037

Yes. Under GA law the attorney has to give you the file if you request it. Make the request in writing and send it certified mail to prove you made the request. That said, you won the case. Why would you question what the lawyer did? Just be glad you won. Plenty of folks do not win.
