Legal Question in Traffic Law in Georgia

In June, my license was suspended for no insurance. I was my 2nd offense in 5 years. My suspension time is over, but i can't afford the $700-800 to get it reinstated yet. I have not driven since then, even though I live alone and have 2 children. I lost my job b/c I couldn't get there (I was not given a work permit) That is the background info. My question is this: My friend was at my house and came to pick me up, driving my van. He didn't know that it didn't have insurance and a suspended tag (b/c of no insurance), he only knew I was unable to drive. We got pulled over b/c the cop ran my tag. I have read online that I will have a mandatory 5 years of my license being revoked. I want to know if there is anything I can do to fight this. Also, would getting an attorney help. I only have unemployment and 2 children, so i don't have money. However I can not afford to lose my license. I was not driving and did not know he was going to drive my car to come pick me up. Please advise.Thanks.

Your story is unbelievable, as there is no way he could pick you up in your van unless you gave him access to your keys. Instead of making up stories, get a good lawyer and tell him the truth. You need a lawyer and you need to start obeying the law. And you need to be honest with the lawyer.
