Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Georgia

estate/will question

My dad passed away. We haven't had any contact for the past 3 years. He died in NY, but had property in Georgia. I do not know if he had a will or not. His sister (my aunt) called recently and states that she needs for me to send her a note stating that I do not want any of my father's belongings or property. I do not want anything from his estate and do not want to be involved with his bills or settling of the estate. Do I need to consult a lawyer for help with this? I feel like it would not be wise to send the note she is asking for without legal assistance. thanks

Re: estate/will question

You probably should consult with an attorney, who will get all of the information that is needed to assist you during the course of the representation. It sounds like either your father did not have a will, or had a will that included proeprty distribution to you; hence, the reason for your aunt's request.
