Power of Attorney

Does a lawyer have to sign a power of attorney for it to be a legal document in Georgia.

No. The POA only requires the signature of the person giving it. However, if it is to be used in conjunction with a real estate transaction, it will probably need to be witnessed and notarized.

Lawyers do not sign powers of attorney but you need one to prepare one.

Some POAs have special rules for witnessing, since they address land or may address land, and those require two witnesses, one of whom is a notary.
