transferring car title out of state

My mother died and as her only heir, I

now own her car. The car is in Georgia,

I live in NY and I want to give the car

to my son who lives in Arizona. Can I

transfer the title from her name

directly to my son?

Re: transferring car title out of state

Yes. Usually all that is required is to just sign the title document as the Estate representative and provide an original Certificate of Appointment, so it can be shown to the appropriate MV office. You may need to show an original Death Certificate also. Best is to contact the local MV office where the car is to be registered to see what and if other documents are also needed.
