I work through a temp service and on an assignment I twisted my ankle. I went to the doctor the temp service sent me to. te doctor put me on light duty, and the place I was working at keep me doing the same job. well my ankle got worse.I call out to go to the doctor and the place were I was working relived me of the job. can a company do that while Im on workers comp.?

Unfortunately, in Georgia, an employee's workers compensation status will not protect him or her from termination. HOWEVER, it is possible that your employer owes you workers' compensation income benefits for the period following your termination.

Why did your employer fire you? If the termination was related to your injury, then they probably owe you weekly workers' compensation income benefits. Even if the termination was not related to your injury, they will owe you income benefits while you are on light duty IF you can prove that you are making a dilligent job search. Regardless of the reason for your termination, you are entitled to medical benefits until your ankle injury is resolved.

If you are not receiving both income and medical benefits, you should consult an attorney as soon as possible. There is a strict time limit for taking action in workers' compensation cases so you should not wait to consult an attorney about this.
