Assault in the Second Degree is classified as a Class "C" felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 5 years imprisonment and/or $10,000. You my hire a private lawyers (hopefully on who specializes in criminal defense) or the Court will appoint a lawyer for you from the public defender's office or from a list of court appointed lawyers. If you decide not to fight the case at trial, your lawyer will try to obtain the best plea agreement for you including possible probation and/or deferral.
