Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Hawaii

Civil judgement statute of limitations

We received a civil consent judgement for $30,000 in Georgia on October 28, 2007. A FiFa was also filed. We have never collected. Does the judgement ever run out? Someone told us it may be 7 or 10 years.

Re: Civil judgement statute of limitations

You can collect on your judgment as long as it does not go dormant. If you need help collecting on the judgment and have information about the person who owes you money, I can help you do that. You will need to make an effort to collect on it, or have the sheriff do an asset search for the debtor before the judgment goes dormant (usually 7 years). At that time, it is renewed for another 7 years.
