Legal Question in Employment Law in Hawaii

Pay back of moving expenses after being fired

Took new job 3mths ago, moving expenses were paid, but contract said I had to pay 100% on termination before 1 year, 50% before 2 years.

I assumed from interviews and ethical perspective only when I would quit myself.

Company failed to disclose being acquired by larger company. I feel I am stuck because they say I have to pay moving cost back if I do not move to new company.

Can they legally do that? They say the might fire me anyway if they do not need me anymore and then I would still have to pay everything back?

Re: Pay back of moving expenses after being fired

Dear Sir/Madam,

Since you indicated you had a contract with your employer, your question is a contract law one. My firm represents individuals who have been wrongfully terminated from their jobs. In your case, in order to answer your question, it would first be necessary to review the contract you had with your employer and then discuss the representations made to you by your employer's hiring agent. Should you have any further questions on this matter, please contact me at [email protected]. Sincerely, TJ Lane
