Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Idaho

How to get out of a lease

My room mate wants to move her boyfriend in to our apartment and I do not want him there. We signed a lease together. She says that i can have a letter noterized stating that i am not responsible for the lease and move out. I think as long as my name is on the lease (and the office said they will not remove it) that i am responsible. Is there any legal way i can move out and not be responsible for the remaining 4 months rent.?

Not without the Landlord giving you a written release. I would need to see the lease to advise, but most landlords PROHIBIT non-named individuals from occupying the property (other than as casual overnight guest). If he moves in, both named tenants are in breach of the lease.

Call or e=mail for further assistance. I have been a landlord 27 years.
