Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Illinois

Name change in Illinois

I am a minor, a resident of Illinois, and I want to change my name (with parental consent). What legal processes and paperwork do I have to go thorough to accomplish this, and where should I begin. About how much will this cost me? Thanks.

Re: Name change in Illinois

The best way to start is to go to the Circuit Court Clerk's office in the county you are currently living in and ask them for their name change packet. The Clerk is not allowed to give you legal advice but the packet should give you all of the information you need. The cost typically will be your filing fee, around $300 in some counties, and your notice fee, anywhere from $60 to $300 depending on how you give notice. If you are doing this in Cook, Will, DuPage or Kane county, I would be able to assist you, so please send me an e-mail, [email protected], if I can be of assistance.
