If a company takes a deposit by check and you recieve nothing in return and they file for bankruptcy can i press charges

You can ask the state's attorney, but if the company has filed bankruptcy, there is not much utility in this. Your best bet is probably to file a claim in the bankruptcy case, so if there are any assets, you will be in line to get some of your money back from them.
