Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

Use of competitor's client list.

I have recently hired a new employee who left a competitor. The employee did not sign a non-compete agreemant with the formewr employee. I also have the addresses of many of the competitor's clients. Can I send a mass mailing targeting the zip codes, specifically these addresses, without using any names? Can I legally state "Jane doe, formerly of _______, has joined our team"?

Re: Use of competitor's client list.

Hello -

As long as no local ordinance prohibits this, I see no legal problems that could arise, if you

sent letters to these clients of

your competitor. However, it might

be best not to use your new employees

name. Even though he says he did

not sign a (non-competition) agreement, stranger things have

happened, and one may show up ....

in court, if his old company decides

to file suit. I hope my answer

helps.
